Back to School: Backpack Essential

Welcome back babes!! It’s time for my final installment in my Back to School series!

This week’s topic: Backpack Essentials

Also check out my thoughts on Back to School Makeup, Fashion and Sorority Recruitment

Disclaimer: I may have an unnecessary amount of items in my backpack, but I’m okay with that.

First let’s talk about what we’re here for: School. Here are the things that are essential for classes

Notebook(s)- I bought one for each class at Target

Folder-I keep one in my bag at all times for handouts and then transfer them to a binder specific to that class

Writing utensils-I’ve got pens, pencils, highlighters, you name it

Planner- for keeping my life together

Second on the list are things I carry around related to technology.

My phone-uh, duh.

My mini iPad-I got tired of trudging my heavy laptop around campus, so i just bought this cutie and its adorable case

Chargers-Call me obsessive, but I have a regular charger and a portable one

Headphones-because what’s a trip to the library without them? (Miserable)

Next up! The essentials.

Umbrella-Listen. It’s not fun to get rained on. I know.

A beverage-I always have a tumbler or a bottle of water, pepsi or gatorade on me at all times.

Ibuprofen-there’s nothing worse than sitting through an already painful class with a headache or cramps.

Pepper spray-precautionary measure I HIGHLY recommend.

Keys-and not the one to my heart

Wallet-gotta make it rain somehow.

Lipstick-and if you’re me, a few of them

Concealer-when touch ups are needed

Compact mirror-the ultimate tool for success

Also important that I now realize I should add to mine

Tide to Go

There ya have it! I hope everyone has a wonderful school year! If you think there’s something I missed, please let me know!

First Impression: Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation

It was time for a change in the foundation realm. It took me awhile to figure out which one out of the millions to choose from. This time I choose Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation. Here’s what I thought the first time I wore it!

Hello Flawless

For my skin tone, I chose “All the Rage Beige” which I thought was fitting for my personality of course.

The Packaging: I think it’s charming! Simple, girly and just cute. I LOVE how it has the pump and the lever that ensures you waste not a drop of makeup

How It Applies: It blends rather nicely and a little goes a long way. Besides areas where I have heavier redness, I only need one layer for an even applicaiton

How It Looks: Let’s put it this way: You won’t look like a cake face, but you can tell your wearing makeup. Overall I think it’s just right.

Color: This foundation doesn’t have a wide range of shades. I definitely lucked out because this shade matches the rest of my body perfectly!

How It Holds Up: I’m really impressed with how long and how well this foundation lasts. I went many hours without having to touch up my face. Not even in problem areas like my chin that usually requires attention. I give it an A in the lasting department.

How it Looks In Flash: Take a look at the picture below to see for yourself! I was surprised given the SPF in this foundation that there wasn’t any flashback aka my face wasn’t white as a ghost. Side note: Look how tan I look!!

I was more impressed than I thought I’d be with this foundation. I would totally recommend this for anyone looking for a new product!

If you’ve found a foundation you love, please give me suggestions for the next time I need a new one! If there’s any product you’d love me to do a First Impression on let me know!

Pretty Little Liars Hanna Marin Inspired Look

I’d be a liar (pun intended) if I told you I’m a regular PLL viewer. I’m so behind on this series, it’ll be over before I finish the first season. But! I was super inspired by their different styles that I wanted to show you how I would adapt their makeup, hair and fashion styles to embody them myself. Hope you enjoy!   -A (Just kidding it’s Jacqueline…or is it?)

This week I decided to start off with the beautiful Hanna Marin!

If you want to see my Aria inspired look click here!

Hanna’s makeup is always perfect for her stunning blue eyes (that I wish I had). To mimic her eye makeup, I went for a gray smokey eye with hints of blue.

I started with L’Oreal Magic Lumi Primer and Benefit’s Hello Flawless foundation.

An optional step at this point is to use a light blue all over the lid, for an extra pop of blue like some of Hanna’s looks.

After finishing these steps, I used Wet n Wild’s blue liner in 695A on the lower lashline and blended that out with the same transition color. Then I applied mascara, filled in my brows, applied concealer and powder.

For the face, I kept it simple with no bronzer and just a light coral.

Hanna’s hair is effortless tousled. I used a medium sized barrel and alternated curling pieces away and towards my face.

There is only one article of clothing that came to mind for Hanna’s look immediately: a blazer.

MAC Blue Brown Pigment Dupe

The other night I was reorganizing my makeup storage (one of my favorite hobbies) and when I reached into the dark depths of makeup that I rarely used and pulled out a Wet n Wild palette. At once, (pause for dramatic effect), I noticed something I hadn’t before. A beautiful, intriguing color. As I glanced at it more, I thought “it looks a lot Could it be?”

Blue Brown Dupe

Well ladies, it could. Take a look at the “Definer” color on the right.  A dupe for MAC’s blue brown pigment. I don’t own this product myself, but I’ve watched enough tutorials on Youtube and swatched it dreamingly at the store to know that the resemblance is uncanny.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself!

July 2015 Favorites

This month is already over? Julying….. haha okay jokes aside, JULY IS OVER??

My life is escaping me. On the bright side, July brought a few new products I’ve been loving recently and I’m about to share them all with you lovely ladies.

AND if you missed my last bunch of favorites you check out my June Favorites!

  1. Bare Minerals Concealer I’ve had this dime for awhile, but because the mineral foundation routine is not for me, it and its powder friends have been neglected. Then, I got a marvelous idea and decided to use it to set my liquid concealer. No, its not a powder exactly, but it still sets my concealer, adds a subtle bit of coverage and helps it last. It’s a win win.

  1. Covergirl Gold Goddess Cream Shadow I’ve never been a huge fan of cream shadows, as hard as I’ve tried (and believe me I’ve tried. I own half of the Maybelline Color Tattoos). But this beauty is perfect for minimal makeup. Just a few swipes on the lid and your not only ready to go, you’re glowing.
I’m wearing nothing but Gold Goddess on my lids

  1. Makeup Forever Artist Shadows 1 Palette This is my favorite purchase in a very long time. I walked in Sephora just to browse, and walked out with this gem. Their shadows are so incredibly pigmented and creamy unlike any other shadow. Although mattes are more versatile, my heart secretly belongs to shimmers like these. Plus, it’s filled with warm shadows. Of course I fell in love.

  1. Milani Coralina Blush I’m on a mission to buy every one of their blushes because I’m never disappointed. Crossing Coralina off my list, I automatically loved it. It’s a deep coral with shimmer. I’m usually not one to add what looks like chunks of glitter to my cheeks, but this blush isn’t overwhelmingly shimmery.  PS I’m wearing this blush in the photos showcasing the lipsticks I’m about to mention….

  1. L’Oreal Julianne’s Red After debating which one to buy from their exclusive collection, I’m thrilled that I made the right choice. This lipstick is red with coal and orange undertones. It is perfect for summer months, but I will no doubt be wearing this year round.

  1. Rimmel Kate Moss 90 I can’t say enough about the Kate Moss lipsticks. This one did not disappointed. I mean look at that beautiful color!

Well ladies, I hope you enjoyed my monthly favorites! What have you been loving this month?

June 2015 Beauty Favorites

June Actual

Too often I stand in front of aisles and aisles of makeup telling myself to buy everything, but hearing my wallet scream “what do you think your doing!?” Then I become so overwhelmed and spend an eternity deciding what to buy. If this ever happens to you, I hope this series I’m starting will help you get some ideas as to what you should be grabbing next time you hit the shelves! I tried to include a range of products for all of your beauty desires! So here are my favorites from the month of June!

YES To Cucumbers cleanser I’ve been using this cleanser for a few months and I just realized how much I NEED it. My skin is naturally red all over my face. After just a few days of using this product, the redness practically vanishes. I don’t see myself not repurchasing it anytime soon.

Fit Me Favorite

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer Maybe this product is old news to you, but I’m VERY picky when it comes to concealer. So when I found Maybelline Instant Rewind Eraser worked, it was hard letting go. But I’m glad I did because this concealer has great coverage and I’m pleasantly surprised with the formulation.

Shade: Brunette

MAC Eyebrow Pencil I recently had a rather…traumatizing experience with my eyebrows. I explicitly said “just a cleaning, no shaping” and walked out with almost no eyebrows. This pencil was a Godsent. It helped me cringe draw in my once naturally full eyebrows.

Milani Coral Cove Milani blushes are one of my all time favorites. This is one of their new shades in the Rose collection. I didn’t include a swatch because it is very powdery and doesn’t come up well on camera. But I do love it on the cheeks!

From left to right: Gold, Cappuccino, Champagne, Caffe

Milani Shadows Another Milani product I fell in love with is there new line of Bella Eyes shadows. Here are the ones I bought (and loved):

  • Bella Cappuchino: similar to Caffe but more taupe
  • Bella Gold: the most beautiful well…gold
  • Belle Caffé: cool tone brown
  • Bella Champagne: sparkly light pink

NYX Apple Crisp Intense Butter Gloss This girl right here can’t resist a red lip. I’m naturally drawn to them. It’s creamy and just as pigmented as a lipstick. I’m wearing only this on my lips in both pictures. (shoutout to snapchat filters)

Revlon Poinsetta Ultra HD Lipstick See I told you I had a red lip obsession. This is the first shade I’ve bought from their new collection. Although I’m not crazy about the shape of the lipstick (the roundness is not conducive for my lip shape), the color is beautiful and it lasts! I even went for a dip in the pool and that baby stayed!

Hard Candy Tiki Bronzer? Let’s be real for a second: this is a highlighter. And a beautiful one at that. I’ve heard people rave about it so when I hit Wally World (Walmart) I had to get it. It’s much lighter and shinier than in this picture.

So there ya have it ladies! Let me know if you have tried these products or if you have any new products you’ve been loving this month! I’d love to hear your recommendations!

XOXO, Jacqueline

Top Foundation Mistakes Your Making {and how to fix them}

By my standards, the key to great makeup is a flawless base. A whole makeup look is infinitely better when the foundation is right. Keep reading to see if your making the top mistakes, and if you want to know how to fix them!
81. Your Skin Care Routine (or lack thereof) Yes this has nothing to do with actual foundation. But it is the ultimate key to everything foundation. You can do everything else right, but if you skin isn’t taken care of, it still won’t be any good.

How to Fix It: My advice is to research your skin type and figure out what works best for you. When in doubt, a good place to start is cleanse, moisturize, and exfoliate.

  1. It’s Not the Right Shade There is nothing worse than foundation that is clearly not your color. Foundation is supposed to look like skin. If it’s the wrong shade, it will simply make you look cakey.

How to Fix it: First, avoid pink foundations. They typically look like paste on your face. Stick to yellow-based makeup. Second, when picking out your foundation, match your neck and body, not your face. Especially during summer, and if you use a toner, your face is usually whiter than everything else. Instead take 3 shades of foundation close to your skin tone and put a streak of each next to each other on your neck. The one that disappears into your skin is your perfect match.

  1. Your Not Applying it Right There are a lot of ways out there to apply makeup. When it comes to this mistake, it’s also a matter of personal preference. However, I have noticed the pros and cons of each.

How to Fix It Although fingers are fast and easy, and contain the perfect amount of warmth, they often leave streaks and patches. The same can be said for sponges, although many people like the way they blend. My go-to tool: a foundation brush. I’ve been using the Sigma F80 for years and I can’t put it down. If it’s not that one, try using any synthetic flat top.

  1. Your not Setting It I never leave the house without powder. If I don’t, I will sweat, rub, and simply wear it off. Powder won’t make it last forever but it will at least increase it life span.

How to Fix It: Use a powder. Simple as that. If your foundation looks cakey, you might want to consider a translucent powder.

  1. Your Putting on Too Much Globs of foundation is easily detected, even by boys, and it’s often not greeted with signs of approval.

How to Fix It: Every girl is entitled to wear as much makeup as she likes, but to avoid the cake-face look, experiment with your routine. Start out as sheer as you willing to go and then build up slowly the areas that need more attention.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your foundation tips, tricks and favorites!
